MySpace

So I've joined the MySpace community. My URL is similar to this blog:

www.myspace.com/publishmysongs

Pay a visit and listen to a couple of tunes there... If I can ever figure out how to co-publish this blog with the myspace blog, I'll join the two up...

Onward and upward...

Back ONLINE!

Well, after some hunting down, I was able to get a new laptop. I chose the Acer Aspire 5112 WLMi. Fairly sweet specs on this model that I picked up from Tigerdirect.ca:

Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005; AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-50 (2x256KB L2 cache, 1.6GHz); 2GB (1/1) DDR SDRAM; 160GB hard drive; integrated Super-Multi drive (DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RAM); 5-in-1 card reader; 15.4" WXGA (1280 x 800), Acer® CrystalBrite Technology; ATI® Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics; 802.11b/g WLAN, 10/100 LAN, V.92 modem; Acer® OrbiCam camera

I'll have the free upgrade to Vista too... I have to find the silver lining here since I'll be starting all my songs off from scratch! I've basically reinstalled everything and I'll be getting ready to record again soon...

Wish me well and ci vedimes...

SAC Regional Songwriters Workgroup #2

I attended my second SAC Regional Songwriters Workgroup on Saturday. Our assignment was to take a published/performed song and change the lyrics to match the syllables of the original song, and the mood of the melody. I chose Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love" as performed by Billy Joel.

Here are my lyrics changing those of Dylan's to "Help Me Heal My Soul":

I feel my pains grow from this broken back
Exposed for all to see the strength I lack
But I know you’ve a certain tact
Please help me heal my soul

I’ve been searching where it’s dark and deep
Free of light you’d think that I could sleep
But all this mystery’s just too hard to keep
Please help me heal my soul

I’m sure that you have better things to do
And I would never place no blame
If you could spare me just an hour or two
I’ll keep on talking all the same

I lost all hope before I lost my face
I’m so reluctant just to state my case
If you could save me just a little space
Please help me heal my soul

The sidewalks crack beneath my fumbling feet
As I come softly to your gate
Before I just keep walking down your street
Before your remedy’s too late

Might you spare another hour or three?
To keep me company in my misery
I know how temperate that you can be
Please help me heal my soul

In your hands I found the cure I seek
You’ve helped me heal my soul
I was again complimented on my singing (which still throws me for a loop) and everyone liked the lyrics. Liana, our group leader, thought it was too "perfect" (I have to email her to find out what that means) in that it captured the same mood as the original. One of the parts of the homework, however, was to match the lyrical mood with the melody, so I'll take that as a good thing...

No Laptop A-coming!

Maybe not this week anyway... the Acer model I ordered is on back-order (even though Tigerdirect's website said they had them in stock and would ship in 24 hrs). I cancelled that order and am looking to buy from a local Acer dealer to get it this week... keeping my fingers crossed.

New Laptop a-coming...

Well, I've started the claims process (though I'm still waiting to hear back from the adjuster). I've ordered a new Acer laptop to replace the stolen one, but I won't see it until next week. So I'm giving myself until next weekend to get back into the groove... (although, I'll still go to my SAC seminar on Saturday).

On the lighter side, Toronto Police Services called me yesterday... sent my heart aflutter for a sec as I thought maybe they had actually retrieved my laptop. No, some officer saw my name in a directory and was calling 'cos he was hoping I new some family law lawyer with the same last name...
