I figured it was the last time I'd get to see Billy Joel, so I dragged my wife to the ACC to catch the concert Friday night... Billy was funny as always, and a great entertainer... He made a point of introducing some of his songs (like Everybody Loves You Now from his first solo album, Cold Spring Harbor) as NOT hits... he likes his "misses" too... a true songwriter...
A review of the concert can be found here...
Ci vedimes...
Have you ever heard his work with The Hassels and Attila before he made Cold Spring Harbor? Atilla is often called "the worst record of all time" but I love it! Wild crazy distorted organ playing with goofy lyrics about Wonder Woman.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have heard of it... (that's why I said Billy's first "solo album") and I actually have the Attila album buried in my old LPs somewhere... I understand the Hassels one was supposed to be more like the Rascals-type stuff (this is all the 1960's we're talking about), though I've never heard his Hassels stuff...
ReplyDeleteThis Father's Day, I think I'll ask for a USB turntable that can function as it's own turntable or to use to record directly on the computer...
Anyway, I used to play the Attila album (Wonder Woman included) on my turntable before it conked out... it's been years since I heard it... but it was cheesy fun...
Thanks for that trip down memory lane...
I have a reissue of The Hassels' first album around here somewhere. George at Lost and Found (974 Bathurst) often has the originals for sale.
ReplyDeleteCool... thanks for the tip...
