Well, I had fun attending (as a guest) my first Toronto Songwriters Association meeting on Friday. The members were very nice and this month's host, Mike Elmer, was very welcoming. I flubbed my blues song (Encore) 'cos of a case of the nerves, but I'm still going to record and post it on my Soundclick site.
Anyway, the TSA's next challenge (if I remember correctly) will be to write a song as a soundtrack to a video display to set a particular mood. Pretty cool concept and if I'm invited back into the group, I'd like to give that a shot. It was a pleasure to meet Marc Belanger, who invited me as a guest, as well as the other members who were present: Kim Boyce (wonderful as always with a song she wrote about global warming), Mark Zubek, Eric Walker, Carmen Schreyer and John.

Date with a Demo #2!
Okay, well I took Free Spirits to SAC's Date with a Demo tonight.
I got some positive feedback from the panel members, John Acosta and Ron Lopata, both local songwriters/producers. John was kind enough to see a Gordon Lightfoot feel to my song/voice, and Ron said it evoked a Van Morrison vibe for him... so, so far, so good...
BUT, they both felt the song's chorus was a pre-chorus and not an actual chorus... so more work needs to be done although the last line of my chorus - The only true free spirit here is me - did withstand their scrutiny, they just wished there was a bigger payoff in the chorus. All in all though, very encouraging...

My New Ibanez Guitar...
Well, I purchased a new Acoustic Electric Guitar... for budgetary and "sound" reasons, I settled on the Ibanez AEL 2012E (a 12-string acoustic electric). I also find it visually pleasing.
I purchased the guitar at Metro Sound & Music on Yonge Street after first trekking out to LA Music in Port Credit (but they didn't have it in stock). Metro beat LA's price anyway, so that was a bonus for me...
Now, I'll be recording my songs with this guitar from now on...
Wish me luck and ci vedimes...
