Well, I had fun attending (as a guest) my first Toronto Songwriters Association meeting on Friday. The members were very nice and this month's host, Mike Elmer, was very welcoming. I flubbed my blues song (Encore) 'cos of a case of the nerves, but I'm still going to record and post it on my Soundclick site.
Anyway, the TSA's next challenge (if I remember correctly) will be to write a song as a soundtrack to a video display to set a particular mood. Pretty cool concept and if I'm invited back into the group, I'd like to give that a shot. It was a pleasure to meet Marc Belanger, who invited me as a guest, as well as the other members who were present: Kim Boyce (wonderful as always with a song she wrote about global warming), Mark Zubek, Eric Walker, Carmen Schreyer and John.
Ci vedimes...

Carmen Schreyer. Now there's a songwriter (and pretty good cartoonist as I recall, I have known for what seems a lifetime -- since Peterborough, Ontario circa 1987, Trent University, etc. Last time I saw Carmen in 1993 was just before her cross-continent motorcycle ride and I pretty much lost track of her altogether by 2001 when she was getting ready to leave Vancouver and I was editing in Yellowknife. Good to know she's in TO.
Well, I didn't see Carmen's cartoons, but she definitely had a "jazz-y" take on the songwriting... very inspired and very cool...
